The Lieutenant is an officer who:

Understands the significance of serving his/her country; Has acquired a mastery of basic infantry skills and tactics; Will decide and act with boldness and determination; Understands that character and integrity counts; Is defined by honor, courage and commitment to a lifetime of doing one's duty.

As a Marine Corps Officer, your future begins to take shape in The Basic School (TBS). The three main occupational areas are: Ground, Aviation and Law, with over 20 possible Military Occupational Specialities (MOSs) to pursue.

All MOSs are awarded based on merit, potential, and desire. However, approximately 90% of all graduates from The Basic School are assigned to one of their top five choices.

Regardless of which field you choose, you will lead Marines through missions essential to our nation's security.
