Life as a Marine Officer
The Basic School
After successfully completing Officer Candidates School (OCS) you will report to The Basic School (TBS) in Quantico, Virginia. At TBS, you will spend 6 months training and developing the professional knowledge and skills necessary to effectively lead Marines under your command.
Courses will include, but are not limited to: leadership, marksmanship, land navigation, communications, infantry tactics, weapons, drill, military law, logistics, personnel administration, and Marine Corps history.
Learning at TBS takes place in both the classroom and the field, preparing you to lead in all types of environments. You will learn to assess situations quickly and then act decisively, without hesitation.
Once you complete TBS you will have the confidence, skills, and training necessary to be a leader of Marines.
At The Basic School
- In TBS you will choose your Military Occupational Specialty or MOS. There are over 20 MOSs to choose from within the primary occupational fields of Ground and Aviation.
